Itinerary:
Day 1:
Arrival and bike tour from Winterberg to Bestwig or Meschede (30–40 km)
After arriving at the hotel or monastery, take the train to Winterberg (with the Sauerland-UrlauberTicket, you and your bikes can ride the train there for free). You’ll start your bike tour on the Ruhr Valley Bike Trail at the source of the Ruhr River. After about 30 km through the beautiful Ruhr Valley, you’ll reach Bestwig. Here, it’s worth taking a detour along the narrow-gauge railway route (about 6 km) to the Sauerland Visitor Mine, where a real miner will explain what it’s like to work underground. The return trip takes you back along the Bähnchentrasse to Bestwig and on to your lodging.
Day 2:
“As Far as the Wheels Roll” (30–60 km)
From your lodging, set off toward Freienohl and ride as far as you like—all the way to Arnsberg or Wickede. You can then use the Sauerland-UrlauberTicket again for a comfortable return trip by train. But before you board, take a stroll through Arnsberg’s historic old town or through the town center of Wickede with its spacious green spaces.
Day 3:
“As You Like It” (approx. 40 km)
Today, your tour takes you along the new Hennesee Loop of the SauerlandRadring. From Wennemen to Eslohe-Sallinghausen, you’ll cycle along the old railroad right-of-way. Once you arrive at Hennesee, you can enjoy a tour around the reservoir and then complete the loop. Of course, you can also use your Sauerland Vacationer Ticket on the third day.
