...is a historical jewel. The eventful history of the Catholic church in Winterberg's Altstadt dates back to the 13th century. The church is dedicated to St. James the Elder, the patron saint of pilgrims on their way to Santiago de Compostela. The church fell victim to devastating town fires three times, but the inhabitants rebuilt it each time. The oldest parts of the altar date from the beginning of the 18th century. The even older apostle figures on the walls come from the Grafschaft monastery, which was dissolved in 1803.
