In the Bestwig area, the Ruhr is still purely salmonid waters. It is primarily brown and rainbow trout that inhabit the river. There are also grayling. Here, the municipality of Bestwig provides around 2 km of Ruhr stretches managed by the fishing club for guests of the municipality. Day tickets cost 20 euros and are only issued to fly fishermen.

Three fish may be taken per day. There is a minimum size limit of 25 cm for trout and 30 cm for grayling. The season lasts from June to mid-September.

Directions

The Ruhr flows centrally through Bestwig and is easy to reach by bus and train. Free parking is available e.g. at Bestwig railroad station, Bestwig town hall and at St. Andrew's Church in Velmede.
