Anyone traveling to the Edersee in Hessen cannot miss this gigantic structure. The 400-metre-long Eder dam was built between 1908 and 1914. After the bombing in 1943, the destroyed dam wall was rebuilt in the same year. To this day, it secures the water supply of the Weser and the Mittelland Canal and serves as flood protection and power generation. With a reservoir volume of 200 million m³, the Edersee is the third largest reservoir in Germany.

The barrier wall still holds the world record as the "longest structure permanently illuminated with color changes". In 2014, to mark its 100th anniversary, 39 LED floodlights were installed in the upper outlets. Every evening, after dark, you can marvel at the fantastic play of colors, while

the visitor center, jetty, restaurants and aquapark make the Edertalsperre with its forecourt a lively starting point.

During a leisurely guided tour over the 400 m long dam wall, you will learn exciting and interesting background information from our guides about the construction of the dam wall, the formation of the Edersee, the bombing during World War II and the national park with UNESCO World Heritage Site. Participation is free for holders of the MeineCard Edersee+ guest card; prior registration by telephone is mandatory.
